The ODU Art Department will be offering a Summer Camp grades 1-8 and  non credit ceramics courses in throwing and clay handbuilding and decoration. The classes are listed below:

Program Overview

The Art Education program at Old Dominion University is offering the ODU Arts Camp for children rising into grades 1- 8.  Classes are divided by age groups.  Camp activities include experiences in a variety of art media such as: drawing, painting, sculpture, clay, fibers, printmaking, digital art, and on campus field trips.

The program is rich in VA. Art and core SOLs and creative/critical thinking skills.  Art education students  (current and/or graduates) will teach the course. The director of the program on site will be an Art Education faculty member. Each session will focus on a different theme so participants can sign up for one, two or all three sessions!

Participants will bring a bag lunch and two snacks each day, and a smock on the first day.

Dates: All sessions are 1 week. Teacher/student ratios will be approximately 1:15. If minimum enrollment number is not reached you will be contacted to enroll in another session.

June 20 – 24
ANIMALS: Wild, Tame, Real and Imaginary – Explore ideas such as animal rights. Cost: 219.00 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

June 27 – July 1
CLAY: Build and Create – Explore ideas such as transforming clay into masks, birdhouses, cups, bowls and sculptures of all kinds. Cost: 219.00 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

July 11 – 15
DREAMS and FANTASY: What if? Explore ideas such as brainstorming, creative and critical thinking to use your imagination, and consider the unusual, the futuristic, the humorous, all the”what if” possibilities (What if we could live on the moon) $219.00 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m

Time:

9am to 4pm Monday through Friday.  Parents must sign in and out their child. The courtesy of a prompt drop off/pick up is appreciated.  

Location:

Classes are held on ODU campus in the Studio Art Building  on 47th St. and the Visual Arts Building on 49^th St. near Hampton Blvd. (look for the red roof).
